From Magnetic Structure to Production

Approve the real opening and closing behavior before the structure is released to production.

  1. Brief

Review the product and buying brief

Confirm dimensions, weight, orientation, quantity, artwork status, required date and shipping route.

  2. Structure

    Build and review the structure

Develop the dieline, board construction, insert fit and opening sequence around the real product.

  3. Sample

    Approve the physical sample

Confirm fit, color, finishing, function and packing method before production release.

  4. Production

    Control the production handoff

Use the approved sample and specification during setup, in-process inspection and final packing.

Quality Proof

Quality Checks for Magnetic Closures

Inspection covers magnet alignment, closure, repeated opening, lid flatness, hinge movement, insert fit and surface condition against the approved sample. For early planning, reference output for magnetic gift boxes is approximately 1,000 boxes per standard 8-hour shift. Final capacity and lead time are confirmed after the structure, materials, inserts and finishes are approved.

Magnetic Box Engineering FAQ

Closure feel, magnet position, insert planning and quality checks for repeatable production.

Explore all 147 answers
What are the main magnetic and book-style box constructions?

Options include slim magnetic book-style boxes for cosmetics and small gifts, reinforced heavy-duty versions for premium sets, non-magnetic hinged boxes, and side-opening presentation boxes. Board, spine and closure specifications change with size and load.

How do you decide magnet position, quantity and strength?

Magnets are normally paired near the opening edge and kept clear of the hinge. Small boxes often use two, medium or large boxes may use four, and oversized lids may need more. The closure must hold securely in transit without making the box difficult to open.

What causes magnetic boxes to misalign or fail to close properly?

Weak attraction can result from undersized magnets, incorrect polarity, deep placement or a warped lid. Misalignment and poor opening feel may come from magnet position, spine tension, cutting variation or board movement. We use positioning fixtures, polarity checks and repeated opening tests.

How do you keep a large magnetic lid flat?

We use denser, thicker board, reinforce the spine and inner lid, distribute magnets across the opening and allow the mounted boards to condition before assembly. If the product is too heavy, a lid and base structure may be a safer choice.

How are inserts, ribbons and literature arranged inside magnetic boxes?

The main product sits in the primary viewing position, with insert clearance kept small but not force-fit. Magnet locations must not conflict with cavities, ribbons must avoid the hinge and closure, and literature needs a pocket or recess that does not lift the lid.

Which materials work best on magnetic boxes?

Dense greyboard with tactile paper, leather-textured paper or coated wrap is common, paired with matte finishes, foil or embossing. Dark papers magnify scratches and white edges, pale papers reveal dirt and glue, and thick textured papers may reduce magnetic pull or wrinkle at the spine.

When is a magnetic box the wrong choice?

It is not ideal for very heavy or oversized products, severe cost targets, sustained high temperatures, or magnet-sensitive cards and electronics. In those cases, a reinforced lid and base, drawer or non-magnetic structure is often safer.

How is a magnetic box inspected?

Magnet position, polarity and concealment are checked first. The lid must draw closed reliably, open with reasonable effort and show even gaps without springing back. Repeated opening confirms that the hinge does not crack and the closure remains consistent.
